The Merribells are a mixed group of handbell ringers. Some are quite experienced and play with other groups. Others are less experienced or absolute beginners.
We sometimes operate two separate groups, depending on numbers. The groups will comprise beginners who are learning the techniques of HOW to ring. The more experienced players will be developing their skills with more challenging pieces. It is useful to have some musical knowledge. Our music is colour marked - red/ pink for the right hand bell, green for the left hand bell. Some understanding of rhythm is also useful.
We are able to teach you how to ring handbells.
We play for fun. For ourselves . We sometimes play for others. Playing hand bells is a very social experience as you become part of the whole instrument to make the music work.
Some of us belong to the Hand Bell Ringers of Great Britain (HRGB). We are able to join events with other ringers both nationally and regionally.
Handbell Ringing is an excellent workout for your brain and for your coordination.
