Creative Writing

Our next meeting will be from 2-4pm on Friday 17th April 2026 at the Liden Community Centre. 
The writing prompt is to use an original simile you thought up during the March session (or come up with another) and use it as the subject of the piece.
Similes generally fall into two types known as "As......As" or "Like". Common examples are:
As daft as a brush:
As snug as a bug in a rug
Fits like a glove
Avoid like the plague
As ever the target is 400 words or thereabouts.
If you would like to join the Creative Writing group please come to a meeting to see what we do. We aim to provide a welcoming, friendly place where you can share your writing with the group and receive helpful and encouraging feedback. We cover all forms of writing be it short stories, novels, poetry, screenplays, memoirs or articles. Furthermore, we also have enrichment sessions where we focus on particular writing techniques or writing genres.

Please note the fee for joining the Creative writing group is £12 which covers the whole year from September 2025 to August 2026. This pays for the rent and use of the facilities of the Liden Community Centre room. This fee is in addition to the U3A annual membership fee.
